Rampage Jackson has agreed to be a coach on the Ultimate Fighter. Against Rashad Evans. I think Dana (UFC)must have offered him some real money. Why? Well, with Rashad getting Knocked Out in spectacular fashion... facing him seems less than stellar.
In fact, there's no good MMA reason to do it other than a pay day.
Get two devastating punchers together and let the fans go wild. I don't care. These two can build their hype all they want. It's still a nothing fight in the middle of nowhere... well until the winner gets a shot at the title (so White can keep his MMA machine rolling) But until then, Rampage has scuttled off... lol.
Good job, Rampage. I wouldn't want a piece of Machida either. Let someone else knock him out. He was made to dismantle punchers.

Rashad vs. Rampage? Kewwwwlll....
I don't really like watching either of these guys but at the same time I am very quick to admit that they have some serious power behind them. They hit with heavy, heavy hands. And they are skilled enough in other areas that people can't take advantage of them like the strikers of UFC old had to endure.
Neither one of them is a brawler so I think some fans might actually be disappointed in the fight. They don't wildly pursue the enemy until somebody has been knocked out. They fight with cunning and aggression.
They both also have great chins.
I could really see which of them hits harder by their reactions in this fight. It's always interesting when someone you thought hit like a ton of bricks finds out the other guys hits even harder. (I thought that happened in the Jens Pulver vs. Uriah Faber fight - Pulver was a little stunned at Faber's aggression and punching power)
Too bad the fight won't happen for a while.

Smashed Him in the Face! Doc Bans Rashad Evans After Devestating Loss!
Nevada Fighting Comish: Rashad Evans: Suspended from action - "No Contact" until July 8 for "precautionary reasons."
Man, that beating was so bad that the Nev Comish had to lock you down just in case you thought about taking a fight in the next few... lol. That guy can't even read the writing on the suspension! He'll have to get the guy spoon feeding him oatmeal to read it to him.
"Rashad, stop shaking and swallow your blueberry delight oatmeal. Listen to this, Nevada says you can't fight until July 8th..."
LoL.

Return of the Dragon
Lyoto SMASHED Rashad Evans... it wasn't pretty. Well, it was, but not for Evans who couldn't deal with Lyoto's defense... he looked like a high school kid trying to play basketball against LaBron James... not pretty. LoL.
Evan's didn't even really hit Machida. How strange is that in a fight. A fist fight no less. I mean, these are two fighters at the top of their game at the top of the UFC world. And one of them can't even hit the other?!?
Plus, Machida doesn't look like he has 500 oz. of juice running through his veins like GSP. I'm not saying he's on the juice... wait, yes I am. I know a couple steroid dealers and they SWEAR he's juiced up. And they gave me a pretty compelling argument. I wonder if GSP could punch Lyoto? I think he's much more rounded and could easily connect but doing real damage is another story all together.
I can't say there's a fighter I enjoy watching more these days. I mean, if they are going to keep throwing nobody after nobody at Fedor, well, I'm stuck with the UFC, Miguel Torres and Faber. And the UFC means Lyoto Machida!!! Oh, and Anderson Silva. Two guys at the top of their game.

Smash him in the Face: Predicts it's the year of the Dragon
Lyoto Machida vs. Rashad Evans
The battle of two undefeated champions.
Black vs. Mexican.
Striker vs. Technician.
Offense vs. Defense.
Can it get any better than this?
I love it when two guys get together in the ring that are good. I love watching both of these guys, but I really love watching Machida. I might be the only one. The UFC sure doesn't like him. He doesn't win spectacularly but he does win. And win. And win. And he never gets hit.
It's a thing of beauty to watch Lyoto. Perfect timing...hard, fast kicks, great footwork, quick hands, good vision and nearly impenetrable defense. I think his style frustrates people... like it did to Tito Ortiz who complained during their fight by sighing and rolling his eyes and throwing up his hands as if Lyoto were supposed to remain still and get hit.
Doesn't seem like a good idea to me... and it didn't seem to be a good idea to him. So Tito was pushed from the UFC with his internet sensation girlfriend to... I'm not sure where he'll end up. He's a good fighter who was a great fighter once and he still what it takes to compete at this level.
This Sat. I think you'll see Lyoto's defensive style frustrate Rashad Evans the same way it has everyone else. Sure Rashad can end it with one punch but if you saw the Griffen fight you saw that a great game plan can do a lot against Evans. But Machida hasn't show the need to demonstrate his ability to take blows (see Oscar De La Hoya)to let everyone know he's a true champion. He, like Anderson Silva, just keeps winning.

Shut up, Dana White!
Even if this blog gets up to 1,000 visitors a day (who am I kidding? lol) I know I'll never be invited to a UFC event. Because, as a fan, I'm sick of Dana White. I love the fact that he brought the UFC to prominence. I love that MMA got it's chance because of him. But that doesn't mean I love him.
If Chuck Liddell wants to get punched in the brain some more... who is Dana White to say different? They're friends? My friends don't tell me to quit something to a hundred thousands fans. My friends don't out me on public television. I don't know what kind of friends you have. My friends don't suck.
I'm sure, being the owner of the UFC he can afford a cell phone. My friends call me or come over to talk about that kinds of stuff. Either that or they keep their mouths shut.
I know Dana White's taking shots at Chuck's trainer about money issues... but I think that's where Dana's motivation to speak PUBLICILY comes from as well. He knows the money horse has been replaced by a battered, novelty ticket draw. Something the UFC doesn't need. Maybe he's trying to save Chuck's reputation... but only because he's associated himself with Chuck for so long. He Punk'd Chuck for Christ's sake!
Dana looks like he's worred about Dana. This is a classic selfish ploy that he can try to cover up with his rantings and ravings all he wants. Changes nothing. He put his boy out to pasture. He used his power to try and push Liddell out. That's called a Power Play where I come from. And once again, we don't do that to our friends...

Anderson Silva - Best fighter in the world?
I read a number of articles about Anderson Silva after his last two fights and it seems like the people, especially at Yahoo Sports, don't have anything good to say about him. Hmmmmm. Champion of the world. Longest victory streak in the UFC. Smashes competitors so badly they are afraid to engage.
And yet, I keep reading these articles saying that he's... what? I'm not even sure what they are saying. Dana White (UFC owner) is disappointed? He didn't dominate his competitor? I'm not sure exactly what these articles are implying...
The competitors, it seems to me, are so wary of his ability they are attempting to negate him by refusing to fight him as the UFC intended. I think it is his latest victims that should be "I.D.ed" as under performing. Their refusal to engage this champion is nothing more than another sign of his dominance in a sport that few can dominate.
To me, Dana White is another Mark Cuban, an owner who has entirely too much say in entirely too much. I don't find him especially insightful. He just happens to control the UFC. Who cares? I don't tune in to watch him. And unlike other sports writers, the UFC doesn't "gift" me with anything so I have no reason to echo everything the super tough (he's an Ed Hardy tough guy... loves the image, loves to hang out with the talent and boss them around...) Dana White has to say.
Silva is a machine.
A champion.
And the best fighter the UFC controls. (they love to control, don't they? Can't blame them, though)
